by J.D. Davidson   Ohio’s record run of business startups ended in April, and Secretary of State Frank LaRose blamed rising inflation for discouraging entrepreneurs from creating new business. LaRose on Thursday also called on leaders in Washington to put politics aside and work to bring rising costs under control. “We’ve seen working Ohioans continue to pay the price for the current administration’s lack of leadership in reining in record high inflation,” LaRose said. “Now, it’s Ohio small businesses who are left to suffer. The time for political games is over. It’s time for action. My message to Ohio entrepreneurs – I will continue to fight the bureaucratic incompetence in Washington and work with our legislative leaders to ensure the Buckeye State remains the destination state for starting a new business.” There were 15,488 new business filings in April, a 20% decrease from March and a 30% decrease from April 2021. In a news release, LaRose pointed out the National Federation of Independent Business small business optimism index reached its lowest point in its 48-year history, citing inflation a...
By Rob McLean and Jackie Wattles | CNN Elon Musk denied allegations that he sexually harassed a SpaceX flight attendant in 2016 in a series of late-night tweets. “I have a challenge to this liar who claims their friend saw me ‘exposed’ — describe just one thing, anything at all (scars, tattoos, …) that isn’t known by the public. She won’t be able to do so, because it never happened,” the Tesla and SpaceX CEO tweeted early Friday morning. The tweet comes after Business Insider reported that SpaceX paid a $250,000 settlement in 2018 after a SpaceX flight attendant alleged sexual misconduct against the billionaire. Nicholas Carlson, the editor-in-chief of Insider, the parent publication of Business Insider, responded to Musk’s denial on Twitter. “We stand by our story, which is based on documents and interviews and speaks for itself,” a tweeted statement reads. Citing documents and interviews it conducted, Business Insider reported that “the attendant worked as a member of the cabin crew on a contract basis for SpaceX’s corporate jet fleet. She accused Musk of exposing his erect penis...
During a Monday appearance on FNC’s “Fox & Friends First,” Rep. James Comer (R-KY) warned that Hunter Biden and his foreign business dealings made him a “national security risk.” Comer suggested that President Joe Biden could also be “compromised” because of his son’s business dealings with Russian oligarchs and “shady communist China companies,” which he said would explain some of his decisions as commander-in-chief. “I’ve been saying for months that Hunter Biden is a national security risk,” Comer outlined. “The question now is what did Joe Biden know, and when did he know it because Hunter Biden’s whole business model revolved around doing favors for these clients. In fact, if you look at two of the Russian oligarchs who paid Hunter Biden money, they have just been mysteriously left off of this White House’s list of Russian billionaire oligarchs.” “We have asked for information from the White House as to why this omission from the two people that we know transacted money to Hunter Biden’s account,” he added. “So, this is a national security risk. We, as Republicans and as...
The Kentucky congressman who will lead Republican investigations if the GOP takes back the House in 2022 is lining up Hunter Biden and the 'Biden crime family' as one of the main targets. Rep. James Comer, who is primed to take over as chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, says the president's son and his business associates have many questions to answer over his foreign deals and taxes. He says the White House will also be pressed on whether the president knew about any of the transactions and believes American voters are now coming around to the fact the Hunter scandal isn't a 'conspiracy theory' and are questioning the administration's ethics and transparency. Comer called Hunter a 'national security risk' and a 'grifter' who has built his 'business model' on 'selling access to his father', and believes Democrats see him as an issue leading up to the midterms. Outgoing press secretary Jen Psaki has consistently denied Biden has spoken to his son about his business deals and has referred to the Department of Justice when asked about the...

by Debra Heine   The ranking Republican on the House oversight Committee said Thursday that Hunter Biden is a “national security threat” amid mounting evidence that Joe Biden was complicit in his son’s corrupt foreign business dealings. Amid concerns that the president is dangerously compromised, Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo that Republicans are “having discussions” about impeaching him if they win the House majority in November. The New York Post last week reported that Biden met with his son’s business partner, Eric Schwerin, in the West Wing of the White House on November 17, 2010. Schwerin was then the president of the since-dissolved investment fund Rosemont Seneca Partners. Schwerin reportedly made at least 19 visits to the Obama White House and other official locations between 2009 and 2015.  In addition to Biden, Schwerin also met with various close aides of both Joe and Jill Biden while Hunter was “striking multi-million dollar deals in foreign countries, including China,” Obama White House visitor logs show. According to the NY Post, the Schwerin White House visits included: Meeting with Joe...
White House press secretary Jen Psaki again insisted that President Biden 'does not get involved in his son Hunter's business dealings,' after it was reported that his son's business partner had dozens of meetings at the White House when Biden was VP.  'Nothing has changed about what I said yesterday, the president does not get involved in the business dealings of his son,' Psaki said. Repeatedly pressed, she continued to say 'nothing has changed.'  An exclusive DailyMail.com report on Hunter's emails recently revealed that Joe Biden agreed to pay son Hunter's legal fees for his deal with a Chinese government-controlled company. The revelation ties the president even closer to Hunter's overseas business dealings – and makes his previous claims that he never discussed them with his son, even less plausible. Joe was able to pay the bills after earning millions of dollars through his and his wife's companies after he left office as vice president. Some of the wave of cash came from their book deals and speaking engagements. But the president's financial filings reveal that he declared almost $7million...
Associated Press NEW YORK — New York’s attorney general asked a court Thursday to hold former President Donald Trump in contempt and fine him $10,000 per day for failing to comply with a subpoena for documents in her ongoing civil investigation into his business practices. Attorney General Letitia James argued in court papers that Trump should be fined “a sum sufficient to coerce his compliance” after he missed a March 31 court-imposed deadline to turn over the documents. Trump is in the process of appealing a February court ruling forcing him to answer questions under oath in the civil investigation but has not appealed a ruling establishing the deadline for him to provide documents, James said. A message seeking comment was left with Trump’s lawyer. James, a Democrat, has said that her investigation into the Republican former president’s business practices uncovered evidence that he may have misstated the value of assets like golf courses and skyscrapers on financial statements for more than a decade. Her office has said it is seeking Trump’s testimony and documents as it works to determine...
Republicans are planning to conduct oversight investigations into Hunter Biden’s corruption after the midterm elections, pending victory. “The House Oversight Committee is going to be all over Hunter Biden,” Rep. James Comer (R-KY) told Politico. Comer is likely to become chair of the Oversight Committee if Republicans retake the House. “We’re going to focus on Hunter Biden not for political reasons, but because we feel he’s a national security threat,” Comer said. A grand jury is reportedly investigating Hunter for tax fraud, money laundering, and the violation of lobbying laws in relation to corrupt business deals undertaken while President Joe Biden was in top positions in the U.S. government. (Jonathan Ernst/Getty Images) “I know the grand jury is looking now, but I think there’s a real need to understand what was always said, what other countries are paying him in the process,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told Politico. “I think it is definitely something we should look...
Fourteen Republicans signed on to a pair of letters to the White House and National Archives on Thursday asking for records of any correspondence between Hunter Biden and the White House during both the Obama and Biden administrations to be turned over to them.  'The Biden family has for decades profited off Joe Biden's positions of public trust. Hunter Biden particularly benefitted from his father's success in politics,' the letter, signed first by ranking member on the Oversight Committee Rep. James Comer, R-Ky.  It noted that Russia weeks ago levied sanctions on not only White House officials but also Hunter Biden. 'The nation's adversaries apparently see the President's son as a pressure point to exploit.' 'Hunter Biden's connections throughout the Russian sphere of influence have now become especially relevant in the fast-moving and developing Russian war in Ukraine. If the Russian government is attempting to influence American policy in Ukraine by exploiting Hunter Biden's connection with his father—the President of the United States—the American people deserve to know it.'  'The Biden family has for decades profited off Joe Biden's positions...
The Florida Republican senator has been a fierce critic of both the National Basketball Association and the Chinese government. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) held a fundraising event at a basketball game in Washington, D.C, on Wednesday night despite his recent criticism of the National Basketball Association for doing business with the Chinese government. According to an invitation sent by Rubio's campaign fundraising consultant, donors were asked to contribute at least $1,000 to Rubio's reelection campaign to attend the Orlando Magic game against the Washington Wizards. Representatives of corporations and other special interest groups were asked to donate $2,500 from their political action committees in order to join Team Rubio at the Capital One Arena in Washington. "Senator Rubio's race is one of the top incumbent races in the 2022 Cycle," the contribution request noted. "We are working extremely hard to ensure the Senator has every resource necessary to fight." Earlier this month, Rubio co-authored a letter to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, writing, "Over the years, the NBA has continued to overlook the egregious human rights abuses committed by the CCP,...
London (CNN Business)Businesses are sending a clear message to UK politicians: Stop messing around. Companies and industry groups in Britain issued strident warnings against further political turmoil Wednesday after a challenge to Prime Minister Theresa May's leadership underscored the strength of opposition in her own party to her government's plan for Brexit. Underscoring the high stakes for business, a major UK manufacturing firm confirmed it has activated contingency plans. Airplane engine maker Rolls-Royce (RYCEY) said that it has begun stockpiling parts to help minimize the damage from a disorderly Brexit. There are only 107 days to go before Britain is scheduled to leave the European Union, but parliament remains deeply divided on how to break with Britain's biggest trading partner.May survived a confidence vote on Wednesday. The Walt Disney Co. has announced it is suspending all business in Russia in response to Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The decision comes as Disney continues its close relationship with China despite the CCP’s well-established record of invasion and human rights atrocities. Disney said Thursday it will pause all business operations in Russia in response to the armed conflict. “Given the unrelenting assault on Ukraine and the escalating humanitarian crisis, we are taking steps to pause all other businesses in Russia,” the media giant said in a statement. Among the operations Disney will halt in Russia are its Disney Cruise Line activities, National Geographic magazine and tours, content and product licensing, local content productions, and linear channels. Disney said some businesses will take some time to stop due to contractual obligations. The company has already announced it will stop releasing movies in Russian cinemas, a move taken by all the major Hollywood studios. Disney continues to do business in China despite Beijing’s continued genocide of minorities in Xinjiang and Tibet. The company operates theme parks in Shanghai and Hong Kong, and continues...

The National Archives delivered more damning revelations in a letter Friday, finding that Trump White House aides were conducting official government business via non-approved non-government electronic messaging apps. NARA also confirmed that there were “items marked as classified national security information” in the 15 boxes being stored in the former president’s Mar-a-Lago suite, in violation of federal law. “NARA has also learned that some White House staff conducted official business using non-official electronic messaging accounts that were not copied or forwarded into their official electronic messaging accounts, as required by section 2209 of the PRA,” it said referring to the Presidential Records Act. Trump won office in 2016 in part by distorting and politicizing Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email address and server, which were not violations of law. The National Archives letter makes clear classified documents were in fact in those 15 cartons, and that it has contacted the DOJ. “Because NARA identified classified information in the boxes, NARA staff has been in communication with the Department of Justice.” It also reveals that as far back as 2018...
Breitbart News senior contributor Peter Schweizer said Sunday on FNC’s “Sunday Morning Futures” that President Joe Biden’s family members, who made business deals with China, have created a “national security issue.” Bartiromo asked, “Peter, we are talking about the conflicts Joe Biden has with his family have with China. This is not just a legality question. This is an issue of national security. You have reported that the Biden family accepted $31 million. Do you believe this is treason given the fact that the CCP is an adversary of America?” Schweizer, the author of Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win, said, “Well, look, all I can say, Maria, is I’m old enough to remember the Cold War when we were combating the evil empire of the Soviet Union.” He continued, “It’s unfathomable to me that we would have tolerated at that time an American first family or second family, the vice presidency, doing business deals with Russian businessmen who are business partners with the highest levels of the KGB. I don’t understand why it’s different for China. China has the same goals as the Soviet Union. They want to supplant us. So, people, I...
Afghanistan in 2021 and Ukraine in 2022 stand out for their profound shock and the strategic importance of President Biden's failure in those two settings. Both are flashpoints in understanding what is fast coming together to be President Biden's 'America Last' foreign policy. In national security, perhaps more than any other area, the impact of a single decision by an American president can be immediately felt and alter the very nature of a policy challenge, if not the broader geopolitical dynamics, as the aftermath of the Afghanistan and Ukraine crises might bring. In such settings, a president's own judgment and instinct are brought to bear, and the quality of his advisors matters most. Biden and his advisors failed us in Afghanistan and appear to be heading in the same direction in Ukraine, as Putin's Russia continues to mass military forces for a possible invasion. Unfortunately, the current administration's view could not be more different from the one we had when President Trump was in the White House. Our America First plan did not mean 'America Alone,' but it did mean...
People dine at an outdoor dining patio set up at a restaurant on March 18, 2021 in New York City.Angela Weiss | AFP | Getty Images The National Restaurant Association is asking Congress to replenish the Restaurant Revitalization Fund as the omicron variant hits operators' businesses. Last year, lawmakers created the $28.6 billion fund to aid bars and restaurants struggling in the wake of the pandemic. The grants were designed to make up for a restaurant's full pandemic losses of up to $5 million for a single location or $10 million for a business with fewer than 20 locations. Publicly traded companies were ineligible, but their franchisees could still apply. Since the fund was depleted, restaurants have been pushing for Congress to replenish it. Several lawmakers have introduced legislation to do so, but the bills haven't gained traction, and the Biden administration hasn't appeared interested in supporting the measure. But the latest surge in Covid-19 cases and its impact on restaurants could change minds. The National Restaurant Association's latest survey of operators found that 88% of restaurants saw indoor dining...
