A suspected burglar was beat up by a Southern California homeowner after he was caught in the act.   It was just after 6 p.m. on April 1 when Sal Marcado from Oak Park in Ventura County came home to find an SUV parked outside his home, with one suspect in the driver's seat, while a second man, Alexis Provoste, 43, was inside busy filling his pockets and stealing anything he could lay his hands on. When Marcado, 60, who stands at 6-feet tall and weighs  185-pounds, walked inside, he didn't waste any time dishing out his own version of instant justice, beating Provoste with a number of blows to his face.  'He starts to go through the side of me to get out of the house, but I went BAM with the right cross, and he went down onto the grass of the front yard, picked himself up and ran to the car,' recalled Marcado.  'I just didn’t give him a chance, just hit him, because first of all, I don’t know if he has a gun, a knife, any...

This shopping strategy can help prevent you from buying full-priced items and can save you hundreds on your next trip to Costco. 1Asterisks mean the warehouse club is going to sell out of the productCredit: Instagram/greg.lasvegas In an Instagram reel, Greg Chin shared that Costco puts asterisks in the corner of some of their price tags. In general, they mean the warehouse club isn't going to restock the item once they sell out, according to Greg and many other deal experts. However, the asterisks can signify different things depending on the price that is listed on the tag. For instance, an asterisk plus a price ending with eight cents means Costco has taken its first steps to mark down the product, Greg said. Finland and Sweden are 'closer than ever' to joing Nato after Russian threats backfired. Vladimir Putin's demands that the US ban the Nordic nations from the alliance has made their joining more likely in the wake of heightened tensions around Russian troops along the border with Ukraine. Sweden and Finland have been unaligned with a major military power since the Cold War but Russian rhetoric over an invasion of Ukraine has pushed them closer to Nato. A Finnish MP told the Telegraph that the country - which borders Russia - was closer to joining the alliance after Russian aggression. Nato is an alliance of 27 nations formed in 1947 in the wake of fears over a potential war with the Soviet Union in the wake of the Second World War. Vladimir Putin's demands over Nato membership has backfired in a time of heightened tensions over a potential invasion of Ukraine Nato officials believe that the countries admission to the alliance would be relatively straightforward due to the Nordic nations already meeting many of the criteria for membership.  US secretary of...

U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan warned Brazil about using equipment from Chinese telecoms giant Huawei in its 5G phone network during a visit last week, the White House said on Monday. Officials also pressed Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on his repeated claims that electronic voting could throw next year's elections into doubt, according to the National Security Council's senior director for the Western Hemisphere Juan Gonzalez. But he denied reports in local media that the visiting delegation had offered Brazil membership of NATO if it took a harder line on Huawei. 'At no point there was a quid pro quo,' he told reporters on a conference call. 'No exchange of a favourable position on Huawei for us and for becoming a needed global partner. 'They're separate issues.' U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan raised concerns about Huawei equipment in Brazil's 5G telecoms network during his visit to the country last week. But a White House official denied reports saying the U.S. offered to back NATO membership in exchange for Brazil excluding the Chinese Telecoms giant In a...
On Wednesday’s broadcast of Fox News Radio’s “Guy Benson Show,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) discussed the controversy over Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse’s (D-RI) beach club membership by stating that the Senate Judiciary Committee, which Whitehouse is a member of, looks at whether judicial nominees have memberships in private clubs that discriminate as part of the vetting process, and nominees who don’t resign from such organizations don’t have their nominations acted on. McConnell said, “[Y]ou might be interested to know that when we vet, on the Judiciary Committee — upon which Sheldon sits — when they vet judges, one of the things they look for [is] do they have private club memberships that discriminate? And if they don’t resign from them, they don’t act on them. So, I think, in a large part of our country, including there on the Judiciary Committee when they vet judges — in fact, I remember a judge a number of years ago, a good guy, who resigned from a club…otherwise, he wouldn’t have been confirmed.” He added, “I don’t have any particular observation about...
Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse Wednesday said he belongs to a sailing club that lacks diversity. The sailing club is distinct from Bailey’s Beach Club, an elite Rhode Island organization that allegedly is predominantly White and to which he has been previously linked. In a statement to Fox News, Whitehouse he is not a member of the beach club, though his family is and they will remain so. "While I am not a member of the beach club, I do own a boat and belong to a sailing club in Newport.  While this club does not have exclusionary rules for membership, it does lack diversity," the Rhode Island Democrat revealed in a statement to Fox News. "Failing to address the sailing club’s lack of diversity is squarely on me, and something for which I am sorry.  I commit to working with the club and the community to build a more inclusive membership and to better connect with the local community."  Whitehouse did not name the sailing club, but the Ida Lewis Yacht Club of Newport, Rhode Island confirmed to Fox...
Bailey’s Beach Club, which counts Sen. The exclusive beach club in Newport, Rhode Island, broke its silence Wednesday in a statement to The Providence Journal explaining that its members have included “people of many racial, religious and ethnic backgrounds.” The statement came after several news organizations raised red flags over Whitehouse’s membership in the club. The controversy stemmed from a video published by GoLocalProv News, a digital news site, over the weekend in which Whitehouse is asked about his membership in what the videographer characterizes as an “all-white” club. Fox News pounced on Whitehouse Monday for having “refused to apologize for his family’s membership in a reportedly all-White beach club.”  The New York Post also jumped on the story with a headline claiming: “Sheldon Whitehouse under fire for membership at...
On Tuesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” CNN National Correspondent Sunlen Serfaty reported that Bailey’s Beach Club, the club that Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) has received criticism for being a member of has evaded questions on the racial makeup of the club’s membership and that while Whitehouse’s office has claimed the club has non-white members, they haven’t actually shown any evidence of that. Serfaty said, “They are being very evasive here. I’ve had multiple short conversations with them over the last two days, and they, point-blank, have not cleared up the reporting that is out there about their club. And they’ve even hung up on me multiple times. This is the total extent of what they have told me, ‘We are a private club so I am not allowed to give out names of members or people associated with our club…I have no comment at this time, we have no comment at this time.’ And that is when they would typically hang up on me.” She continued, “Now, Sen. Whitehouse responded yesterday to CNN when asked about the reports of his...

As Christians gather to celebrate Easter, a new Gallup poll shows that, for the first time, U.S. church membership has dropped below 50 percent. If you’re applauding this, you shouldn’t be. This milestone should concern anyone who cares about preserving liberal democracy, civility, and comity. You might be tempted to point out that church membership is not the same as religious belief. This is true, but the Gallup numbers also track with the Pew Research Center’s recent findings on the decline of American adults who identify as Christians. Regardless, there is a stark difference between joining a community of believers and being a consumer of, say, televangelism; these differences are significant and demonstrable in terms of our political behavior. During the 2016 GOP primary, for example, one of the best predictors of whether a person would support Donald Trump was regular church attendance. Self-identified Christians might have supported him, but as The Washington Post noted at the time, “Trump does best among evangelicals with one key trait: They don’t really go to church.” Church membership also denotes community and social...
