(CNN)A rogue rocket expected to collide with the moon on March 4 was wrongly identified as a SpaceX Falcon rocket stage and, instead, is likely from a past Chinese lunar mission, according to NASA. The object now on target to hit the moon was first made public by Bill Gray, an independent researcher focused on orbital dynamics and the developer of astronomical software. He identified it in 2015 as the second stage of a SpaceX Falcon rocket, used that same year to launch the US Deep Space Climate Observatory, or DSCOVR.The object, initially called WE0913A by asteroid spotters, had gone past the moon two days after DSCOVR's launch, he said. A rocket booster could crash into the moon in the next few weeks"I and others came to accept the identification with the second stage as correct. The object had about the brightness we would expect, and had showed up at the expected time and moving in a reasonable orbit," Gray said on his website. His assessment was widely accepted by other space experts and NASA, which said it was monitoring...
The announcement caused a stir in late January: the second phase of the SpaceX rocket was due to land on the moon in early March after years of wandering in space. But astronomers have actually misidentified their target. The astonishing announcement was made by astronomer Bill Gray, who first discovered the future impact, and admitted his misunderstanding this weekend. This “good faith bug” underscores the “problem caused by the lack of proper tracking of these objects in deep space,” astronomer Jonathan...
WHETHER you’re going for the sugary Pumpkin Spice Latte or creamy Mocha Frappuccino, a trip to Starbucks is always a good idea.     But one lady found a way to recreate the coffee chain’s sweet cream at home, and the internet is applauding her creativity. 3This woman skipped the drive to Starbucks and instead made her own creamy toppingCredit: TikTok 3The key to her funky hack was a foaming hand soap dispenserCredit: TikTok One lady found a genius way to recreate the coffee chain’s sweet cream, and the internet is applauding her creativity. An amused daughter posted a video to her TikTok account, @raethescallion, that showed her mother using a hand soap dispenser as a coffee tool. “My mom’s newest invention,” the clip began. The daughter laughed as she watched her mother pump cream from a bottle and into her coffee cup: “Wait mom, what do you do? What’s in there?” The mother then turned the bottle to reveal its label: “Gentle Foaming Hand Soap, Snowy Peach Berry.” The woman had emptied its original contents, gave it a good wash,...
A Russian state TV channel has launched an extraordinary attack on a female US presenter for allegedly attempting to distract Vladimir Putin by 'positioning herself as a sex object'. CNBC's Hadley Gamble was moderator for a session involving the Russian leader at an energy forum in Moscow. Putin drew criticism for 'sexism' after referring to her in a session about the gas war as 'beautiful' and 'pretty'. But now Vladimir Solovyov, a Putin 'propagandist', has used his Rossiya 1 news channel show to focus on previously unseen moments in which he claims Hadley attempts to 'distract' the Russian leader.
A U.S. fast-attack, nuclear-powered submarine struck a mystery object while submerged in international waters in the Indo-Pacific region, the U.S. Pacific Fleet said on Thursday, injuring as many as 11 sailors. In a brief statement, the Navy said the U.S.S. Connecticut remained in a stable condition and that her nuclear plant was not damaged. It did not offer a specific location but U.S.N.I. News reported that it happened in the South China Sea. A defense official told the site that 11 people were injured and the boat was now headed to Guam, where it was expected to arrive on Saturday.  The region has been the scene of intense naval activity in recent years as China flexes its military muscles and the U.S. conducts 'freedom of navigation' missions to limit Beijing's influence. The accident comes as Washington expresses concern about China's increasingly belligerent stance towards the self-governing island Taiwan. And on Thursday it emerged that U.S. special forces and Marines have been training troops on the South China Sea island for at least a year. In a statement, the Pacific Fleet...
If the presence of extraterrestrial life is confirmed, former President Barack Obama said the US might have to 'spend a lot more' to defend ourselves and 'new religions would pop up.' In a wide-ranging interview on The Ezra Klein Show podcast, Obama said that he 'absolutely' wants to know what the unidentified objects seen in the videos that have been released by the Pentagon are. 'And so I would hope that the knowledge that there were aliens out there would solidify people’s sense that what we have in common is a little more important,' Obama said in response to a hypothetical question that humanity has become aware of intelligent life beyond this planet, but is unable to get in touch with them.  'But no doubt there would be immediate arguments about like, well, we need to spend a lot more money on weapons systems to defend ourselves,' the 44th President continued.  'New religions would pop up. And who knows what kind of arguments we get into. We’re good at manufacturing arguments for each other.' Obama's comments come just days after he told...
New York : File photo of handcuffs at a police station. Photo: Thomas SAMSON / . / . The Dominican merengue player Antonio Peter De la Rosa, better known as “Omega el Fuerte”, faces legal problems again after he appeared in a video threatening a public car driver with a gun on the Caribbean island. “Omega the Strong” was arrested this Wednesday, as confirmed by his lawyer Félix Portes. However, the artist was not prosecuted for the threat itself, but for carrying a weapon. Portes alleges that the weapon was a Taser or electroshock. “The National Police executes the arrest warrant requested for violation of the arms law on 03-01-2021 by the National District Prosecutor’s Office against Antonio Peter de la Rosa, known as Omega el Fuerte despite the object occupied being a #Taser, recognized by driver by means of an object recognition act ”, complained the lawyer in a message on Twitter in which he included the weapon. Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, Chris Mellon, has revealed that he was the source who provided the New York Times with the three now-infamous UFO videos it published in 2017. Mellon, who served in the senior intelligence role under the Bill Clinton and George W. Bush administrations, made the bombshell admission in a recently released documentary, The Phenomenon, which is directed by James Fox. The 63-year-old told Fox that he met with an unnamed individual in the parking lot of the Pentagon months earlier and was handed a package containing three videos of ‘unexplained aerial phenomena’ captured by Navy pilots between 2004 and 2015. ‘I received the videos, the now famous videos in the Pentagon parking lot from a Defense Department official. I still have the packaging,’ Mellon is heard telling the filmmakers. ‘This is a case where somebody bent the rules a little bit, and they did so for the larger good and we’re absolutely all better off because of it.’ Scroll down for video  Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, Chris Mellon,...
RUSSIAN submarines are fighting a secret war with "alien" craft deep under the oceans, according to top secret Kremlin documents. In scenes straight out of a Hollywood movie, Soviet subs are playing a game of cat and mouse with strange underwater craft, according to a new book called Russia's USO Secrets, by Brit investigator Philip Mantle, based on Russian documents and accounts from military veterans. 7USOs (underwater submersible objects) are the UFOs of the oceansCredit: Splash News 7It's possible that USOs could be alien technologyCredit: Eamonn and James Clarke Describing a bizarre incident in the Bermuda Triangle in 2009, former nuclear submarine commander Yury Beketov said: “We repeatedly observed that the instruments detected the movements of material objects at unimaginable speed, around 230 knots (400 km per hour) "It’s hard to reach that speed on the surface – only in the air [is it possible]… The beings that created those material objects significantly exceed us in development.” The book also contains accounts from Russian veterans about their close encounters - including hostile acts - at sea during the Cold War....
A RETIRED RAF pilot who flew a Prime Minister, VIPs and the public around the world in a 47-year career has revealed his own close encounter with a UFO shaped like 'Michelin Man'. Brian Burdett, 83, was flying a Royal Air Force VC10 at 35,000ft when the strange 'oil drum' shaped object appeared 25 miles north of Corsica. 4Brian Burdett was convinced he saw a UFO while flyingCredit: Supplied 4He was flying a Royal Air Force VC10 at 35,000ft when the strange 'oil drum' shaped object appeared Credit: Supplied He was en-route from RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire and was carrying RAF service personnel and their families to and from Singapore. They were daily flights. Brian, who was acting Squadron Leader, was left baffled by the object which looked like a bright shiny oil drum. Speaking for the first time about the sighting, he said: "Imagine a 56 gallon oil drum, the ones that come up to your hip and have those little bulges at regular intervals; imagine Michelin Man. "Imagine also that it was not...
George DvorskyJust now•Filed to:AstronomyAstronomygravitational wavesblack holesneutron starsmass gapblack hole mergersscienceSaveArtistic conception of a neutron star. Image: NASA Astronomers are puzzling over observations that show a black hole smashing into a mystery object of unusual size. New research published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters describes a collision between a black hole and a yet-to-be identified object. At the time of this celestial tryst, the black hole was 23 times more massive than our Sun, but the unknown object was just 2.6 times the Sun’s mass, which is distinctly weird. The scientists behind the new paper, co-authored by astrophysicist Vicky Kalogera from Northwestern University, say the smaller object could be a black hole or a neutron star, the latter of which is the super-dense remnant of an exploded star. A black hole of 2.6 solar masses would be the smallest on record (the lightest known black hole is 5 solar masses), while a neutron star of the same mass would be the biggest on record (the heaviest neutron stars are between 2.3 and 2.4 solar masses). So either way, it’s not...
