MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Minnesota health officials on Friday reported nearly 3,000 new COVID-19 cases and 12 more deaths as the state’s hospitalization and case growth rates continue to spike.
According to the health department’s update, 2,919 newly reported cases have been added to the overall state count, which is now nearly 1.

Case growth was last recorded at 32.1 daily new cases per 100,000 residents, which is well above the high risk threshold and up from 6.8 in mid-March.

MORE NEWS: Teen Pulled From St. Croix River Following 40-Minute Search, Later DiesThe number of those in the hospital with COVID-19 remains relatively low. As of Thursday, there were 35 patients with the virus needing ICU beds, and an additional 356 in non-ICU beds.
As for vaccinations, about 75% of the eligible population in Minnesota has received at least one vaccine dose.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Illinois reported 5,686 new COVID cases and three deaths Thursday.
There have been at least 3,200,930 total COVID cases as of Thursday, including at least 33,698 related deaths in the state since the pandemic began.
As of Wednesday night, 880 patients in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 85 patients were in the ICU, and 21 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators. IDPH said 19% of ICU beds are available.

IDPH officials reported a seven-day case average of 309 per-100,000 people.
A total of 22,081,962 vaccine doses have been administered in Illinois as of Wednesday, and 64.80% of the state's population is fully vaccinated. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 11,885.
