CHICAGO (CBS) — A man was found with a gunshot wound to the head under a viaduct in Stony Island Park Saturday evening, according to police.

The man, believed to be between 18 and 35 years old, was found underneath the viaduct in the 8100 block of South Anthony Avenue around 7:30 p.m.

He was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

No one is in custody and Area Two detectives are investigating.

Good Samaritan shot during Concord mall robbery dies; suspect arrested

CONCORD — A suspect has been arrested after a Good Samaritan shot during a New Year’s Eve robbery at Sunvalley mall died at a hospital this week, authorities said.

According to prior reporting, police responded to the mall’s lower level just before 3:45 p.m. for a shooting report.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and took him to a hospital, where he was initially listed in critical but stable condition.

Investigators later learned that the shooting victim was trying to assist a robbery victim when the robbery suspects shot him while fleeing the mall.

On Thursday, police said the man died Wednesday at a hospital as a result of injuries he suffered during the robbery.

Police also said investigators arrested a person in connection with the crime but said they would not release any additional information.
